CAT Event Recommended Equipment/Volunteers

This list outlines the required equipment, recommended volunteer staffing, and station-specific responsibilities necessary to operate a single CAT Combine. Each station is designed to ensure testing accuracy, operational consistency, and efficient athlete flow. If you have these items secured, let’s get you booked for a CAT Event!

Biometrics – Weight Station (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor the digital scale.
  • Ensure athlete removes shoes and heavy clothing.
  • Confirm stable reading and record weight accurately.

Required Equipment:

  • Digital scale
  • Flat, non-slip surface

Biometrics – Height Station (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Position athlete correctly against stadiometer or wall.
  • Ensure proper posture and head alignment.
  • Read and record height measurement accurately.

Required Equipment:

  • Stadiometer or wall-mounted measuring tape
  • Flat object for head placement

Biometrics – Reach Station (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Position athlete flush against wall or reach board.
  • Ensure heels remain flat and arm fully extended.
  • Mark and record standing reach height.

Required Equipment:

  • Vertical reach board or wall-mounted measuring tape
  • Chalk or reach stickers

Vertical Jump (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Verify standing reach measurement.
  • Oversee jump attempts and ensure proper technique.
  • Record highest valid jump.

Required Equipment:

  • Vertec / jump mat or wall with chalk
  • Measuring tape

Standing Broad Jump (1–2 Volunteers)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Confirm legal start position.
  • Observe landing for valid attempt.
  • Measure and record best jump distance.

Required Equipment:

  • Measuring tape
  • Floor tape for start line

Seated Medicine Ball Throw (2 Volunteers – Required)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Volunteer 1: Enforce seated posture and throwing rules.
  • Volunteer 2: Mark landing point, measure distance, and record result.

Required Equipment:

  • 3 kg / 6 lb medicine ball
  • Chair or bench
  • Measuring tape

Maximum Push-Up Test (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Monitor body position and movement standards.
  • Count only valid repetitions.
  • Stop test when form breaks.

Required Equipment:

  • Exercise mat or non-slip surface

40 / 20 / 10 Yard Dash (3 Volunteers – Required)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • 40-yard volunteer: Cues the athlete start and times the 40-yard finish.
  • 20-yard volunteer: Times and records the 20-yard split.
  • 10-yard volunteer: Times and records the 10-yard split.

Required Equipment:

  • Cones for start, 10, 20, 40 yards
  • Measuring tape
  • Laser timing system OR 3 stopwatches

5-10-5 Pro Agility Shuttle (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Cue athlete start.
  • Time entire shuttle.
  • Record best valid attempt.

Required Equipment:

  • Cones (3)
  • Stopwatch

3-Cone Agility Drill (1 Volunteer)

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Ensure correct course setup.
  • Time drill from first movement to finish.
  • Record best valid attempt.

  • Cones (3)
  • Stopwatch

Master Combine Requirements Summary

Total Minimum Volunteers: 12

Ideal Volunteer Count: 14–15
